An online meeting was held, with the participation of foreign experts, on the Topic of Countering Russian Disinformation in the Black Sea region
15 April 2021With the coordination of the National Security Council’s Office and support of the Embassy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Georgia, an online seminar on Countering Russian Disinformation in the Black Sea region was held.
The event was led by Sergo Turmanidze, Acting Head of the National Security Council’s Office, the Director of the Department of Internal and External Security Affairs, and the representatives of the UK academic circles. The employees of the National Security Council’s Office, as well as the relevant state agencies participated in the meeting.
The issues of countering Russian disinformation in the Black Sea region and hybrid threats, stemming from the Russian Federation, were discussed at the event. Sergo Turmanidze informed the participants of the meeting about implemented and ongoing, as well as planned activities of the National Security Council’s Office in the field of countering hybrid threats. Together with the hallmarks of the Russian disinformation in the region, he also elaborated on the ongoing review process of the conceptual documents, coordinated by the Office.
Foreign experts put an emphasis on the specifics of disinformation campaigns targeting Georgia, the issues connected with tracking disinformation and the regional dimension of the respective activities.
Interagency meetings on hybrid threats and disinformation will continue in the future.
