29 January 2021With coordination of NSC Office and support of the U.S. Embassy in Georgia, an online conference was held on the German investment screening policy in regard to critical infrastructure subjects.
The representatives of the NSC Office, Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, State Security Service and the National Bank of Georgia participated in a virtual conference on investment screening. From the German side, a representative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy took part in the event.
German colleague provided a presentation about sector specific investment screening procedures and the control mechanisms of foreign investment activities. He also presented a case study on the screening of a particular investment transaction.
The representatives of the NSC Office provided information, to German counterparts, about ongoing reform in the field of critical infrastructure protection (CIP) and the respective action plan.
The reform, implemented in the CIP field with the coordination of the NSC Office, encompasses two separate dimensions. The first one refers to the creation of a legal and conceptual framework in the field of critical infrastructure protection, whereas the second direction envisages identification of critical infrastructure subjects and elaboration of the list of national critical infrastructure, development of security standards for the resilience of critical infrastructure subjects and monitoring of their enforcement, as well as regulation of investment policy with regard to critical infrastructure.
