U.S. Ambassador Kelly C. Degnan visits the Office of the National Security Council
18 September 2020The Head of the National Security Council Office, Kakhaber Kemoklidze, met with the U.S. Ambassador to Georgia, Kelly C. Degnan.
Kakhaber Kemoklidze spoke with the Ambassador about the functions and mandate of the National Security Council and its Office.
The U.S. Ambassador visited the National Situation Room currently serving the Operational Headquarters on the Management of the State of Emergency under the Interagency Coordination Council established to combat COVID-19.
The head of the Operational headquarters, Deputy Head of the State Security Service of Georgia Alexander Khojevanishvili spoke with the Ambassador about the specifics of the work of the headquarters.
The National Situation Room is a physical facility equipped with modern technology and technical equipment which are activated during a national crisis and managed by the Prime Minister. The Room can accommodate up to 100 representatives of various stakeholders in a common working space, providing improved coordination and management. The modern equipment ensures the flow of information flow (including video & audio) from the incident area in order to support the decision-making process.
The National Situation Room was created in accordance with the UK Cabinet Office Briefing Room or “COBR” concept and it was designed to function within the Georgian context.
